Etisalat plans to invest Dh1.1b in Afghanistan

Abu Dhabi: May 24, 2006: Etisalat, which secured a license to operate Afghanistan's fourth GSM mobile network, will invest Dh1.1 billion ($300 million) in the war-torn country over three years.

Mohammad Hassan Omran, Chairman of Etisalat, yesterday signed an agreement in Abu Dhabi with Amirzai Sangin, Minister of Communications, to operate the network.


Etisalat Gets Afghanistan GSM license

May 23, 2006: Etisalat has paid $40.1m to operate a GSM network in Afghanistan for 15 years. It expects to start operations in early 2007. While GSM penetration in the strife-torn country is low, Etisalat is confident of the market's potential for growth.
The agreement was signed by HE Amirzai Sangin, Minister of Communication, Afghanistan, and Mohammad Hassan Omran, Chairman of Etisalat, at the Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi, on 23rd May 2006.


Etisalat to begin Afghan operations by July

Kabul, May 28, 2007: The national Information and Communication council of ICT Afghanistan (NICCA) was inaugurated on Sunday.

According to Ahmad Zia Massod, first vice president and chairman of NICCA, the top priorities of NICCA will be to develop a strategic plan for information and communication technology (ICT), forming standard for hardware and software, coordination amongst government agencies, donor organization and private sectors in order to expand the opportunities of investment in the sector ICT.Ahmad Zia Masood added that establishing e-government was the top priority for NICCA.


Etisalat Establishes Headquarter for Afghanistan GSM Operation

May 17, 2007: Etisalat Afghanistan, the fourth mobile communications provider in the country has acquired a space for its headquarters in the downtown Kabul neighborhood of Share Naw. The agreement was signed between Mr. Salem Al Kendi, CEO and MD of Etisalat Afghanistan and Mr. Khalid Majid, the owner of the new facility. The building is located next to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and is currently under construction.


Etisalat Afghanistan Distributes Cycle Carts to Needy People

Kabul, September 12, 2011: As a part of its social activities, Etisalat Afghanistan distributed 45 cycles Carts to needy and unemployed people. The project is expected to help these individuals find a source of income to support themselves and their families.
