Etisalat Establishes Headquarter for Afghanistan GSM Operation

May 17, 2007: Etisalat Afghanistan, the fourth mobile communications provider in the country has acquired a space for its headquarters in the downtown Kabul neighborhood of Share Naw. The agreement was signed between Mr. Salem Al Kendi, CEO and MD of Etisalat Afghanistan and Mr. Khalid Majid, the owner of the new facility. The building is located next to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and is currently under construction.

Mr. Al Kendi said, “The prime location of the building will give Afghans easy access to Etisalat Afghanistan and the modern structure allow us to have a unique flagship.” The impressive eight storey structure towers over the area, offering views of Kabul city.

Mr. Majid said the building was intended to be the first truly international standard business center in Kabul. He is upgrading the facility for Etisalat Afghanistan, including changing the outside glass facade to Etisalat’s trademark green color. Mr. Majid said, “The green color is like happiness coming to Afghanistan. We are delighted that Etisalat has come here, because it will greatly improve our economy and create jobs.”

Etisalat Afghanistan is a subsidiary of Emirates Telecommunications Corporation-ETISALAT, the leading telecommunications company based in the United Arab Emirates. It began in 1976 and has a presence in 14 countries spanning the Middle East, Africa, South Asia and now in Afghanistan. The company acquired the fourth GSM license for Afghanistan in May 2006 and began working in the country since October 2006. Etisalat Afghanistan is planning to build a state of the art network that Afghans can be proud of.
